[00:01:21] TREY GERRALD: I'm sure that we've done this before. You briefly mentioned it before we started recording, but my allergies are so bad and 'I, I'm gonna be A' little more specific here, but 'I cannot stop sneezing and my nose will not stop running and I'm constantly blowing my nose.
And my real Complaint here is 'I. Guess I've become addicted to Zyrtec without being aware because 'I do take A' pill. Every morning for Zyrtec, which 'I, which 'I know is like not the best case scenario, but when 'I, miss A' Day, 'I feel smacked by A' bus. So my real Complaint here is how it is advised in the sign industry.
Is that even A' word, 'I.
[00:02:05] CHELSEY DONN: Yeah. Yeah, I'm
[00:02:06] TREY GERRALD: sinus industry that you vary your allergy supplements because your body gets conditioned. But I'm so scared of the time in between. Yes. And then what if it doesn't work? Cuz 'I get decimated by seasonal allergies and it's like 'I walk outside and my car is black, but it has A' tinge of like A' yellow
[00:02:28] CHELSEY DONN: the pollen.
[00:02:28] TREY GERRALD: the pollen.
God, it's. Awful. That's my Complaint. Why do our bodies get conditioned that's annoying? And B, like how do 'I like survive in A' world where I'm allergic to stuff?
[00:02:40] CHELSEY DONN: Obviously 'I am with you. 'I also take Zyrtec every day also. Yes, it did kind of come up, but it is sort of funny cuz Trey, look, 'I always write down my Complaint on A' piece of paper before we start. And 'I had one and then 'I changed it to this right before we hopped on. So if you see here, My Complaint is unfulfilled.
Sneezes.

[00:03:07] CHELSEY DONN: I'm telling you guys, there's been A' sneeze that's been trying to get out since this morning, and 'I know that like I'm like laughing at myself as it's happening because I'm like,

[00:03:19] CHELSEY DONN: And then nothing comes out. We need A' sneeze. What is this? BS with the unfulfilled sneezes.
[00:03:27] TREY GERRALD: Isn't sneezing like such A' weird thing when you think about it. Like our body is like expelling it like, and it's like A' sound that we never make except for in this one scenario,
[00:03:38] CHELSEY DONN: But just like so annoying. And the allergies must be just full frontal on both coasts. Unsurprisingly spring,
[00:03:47] TREY GERRALD: It's also because like when you have an allergy attack, your body is dealing with like A' sickness, but it isn't like you are sick. So it's just like that sensation of like, Ugh, I'm not at 100. But like, nothing's really wrong except for like your sinuses, which is like you can plow through, but it's just more.
Like A', constant annoyance, but then not being able to fulfill the relief is insane.

A' Company based in Brooklyn, New York.
[00:04:55] CHELSEY DONN: For this versus episode, Trey has selected the one star, and 'I have selected the five star. So to determine who reads first, we gotta flip that quota. 'I think. You guess try.

[00:05:11] CHELSEY DONN: Woo Trey wins. That's right. Today. As Trey mentioned, we are covering reviews from around the house problem solvers.
Wow NYC Handy men. At the time of this recording, the wows have 58 reviews on Yelp with an average score of 4.8 outta five, not too shabby. According to their website, wow, handy men.com. They are A' small operation which consists of A', small group of old friends who happen to be handy. So Trey, with all that background info in mind, let's jump right in.

[00:05:55] TREY GERRALD: All right. Yeah. So today 'I was tasked with finding the one star review for Wow. NYC handyman. Well, we get into the, like when we're assessing, we have to talk about that title, okay. Of this company. So, all right. This is the One Star review. It's written by Joey. Oh,

[00:06:16] TREY GERRALD: it made me think of, whoa.
[00:06:19] CHELSEY DONN: whoa. Yeah, me too. Like from Blossom
[00:06:21] TREY GERRALD: Yeah, we're old.
All right, so here we go. So Joey owes one star Yelp review, calling him on the phone and leaving him A' message of the job. And he responds to me by text. Now 'I need explain my whole situation again by text. That's fine. Even so then 'I explain to him for an hour back and forth through text the situation, and he gives me A', ballpark price.
It seems like we are A'. Go on the job. 'I told him you're hired. Gave him the address and then asked him what days are you available? No response. It's been since yesterday. Morning. Time is money even if he needed to think it over. Still A'. Long time at least. Tell me, sorry. We're not going to do your job and make up some story or give me A' heads up that he hasn't forgotten about me. With all those great Yelp reviews, it has me scratching my head, but to leave me high and dry is not cool.
[00:07:28] CHELSEY DONN: Okay. Short and sweet Joey O. Actually I'll say short and not sweet. 'I. 'I. Think this is interesting. 'I. Think Joey o.

[00:07:47] CHELSEY DONN: 'I think that one of the most interesting sentences of this review was the make up A' story. You know, li Lie to me. What's that about? Joey 'I would rather someone be honest than make up A' story.

[00:08:04] CHELSEY DONN: And 'I also think it's interesting that Joey is jumping to so many conclusions in A' 24 hour span. 'I mean less than now. We're talking about A' Yelp handyman in New York City with A' 4.8 Overall.
[00:08:25] TREY GERRALD: Yeah.
[00:08:26] CHELSEY DONN: To me, what that means is this person is probably very busy. So if 'I contacted them and they got back to me right away yesterday morning and I'm sort of waiting for A' follow up on scheduling, I'm not gonna run to Yelp and write A' one star review within A' Day, I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt for at least.
A' few days, 'I would say minimum 'I. Really think that Joey is jumping to conclusions here in this review.
[00:08:59] TREY GERRALD: But 'I also hear the Complaint that it's like 'I called that I'm getting Communication via Text. And 'I have experienced that personally with handyman 'I. So there must be something about the texting that's maybe easier
[00:09:15] CHELSEY DONN: mean. Yeah, they're on A' job,
[00:09:17] TREY GERRALD: If you're on A' job site, it might be loud. But your point here about literally less than 24 hours later, you're leaving A' one star review.

[00:09:27] CHELSEY DONN: mean that feels A' little like we're jumping the gun Joey. Right? 'I mean. Even if you were like, I'm gonna write this person off because 'I don't like people that don't get back to me right away. 'I. 'I, guess that's like your prerogative. But to immediately jump to, and then I'm gonna go on Yelp and I'm gonna write A' one star review.
Like, where is that gonna end for you? Because if I'm the business owner, 'I mean 'I don't think that if 'I was like A', busy handyman, and 'I had A' 4.8 overall, that 'I would even maybe bother responding to this, nor would 'I wanna work with this person because they don't seem like they have realistic expectations.
So many times jobs become way more complicated than you thought they were going to. So for me, this is A' red flag from A' customer perspective. Like if 'I own this handyman service, 'I wouldn't wanna work with this person because if they're not gonna gimme the benefit of the doubt of. 24-hour turnaround for A' response without writing A' one review.
Well, what are they gonna do if like, we start to do the job and then we realize that there's something else that needs to be done? Or this person just sounds like they'd be A' nightmare to work with
[00:10:36] TREY GERRALD: 'I mean? Yes. 'I am also hearing like, phew. You like
lucked out on Dodged A' bullet.
[00:10:42] CHELSEY DONN: the spelling and grammar really atrocious.
[00:10:45] TREY GERRALD: there's really been no proofreading here. And some sentences start with A' capital. Some do not. It also feels like the review starts in the bi in the middle. There's no intro or
anything.
[00:10:58] CHELSEY DONN: Yeah. 'I was like very, 'I was having A' hard time at the top of this review catching up, like, where are we? What's happening?
[00:11:05] TREY GERRALD: And it also does absolutely seem shady to me
[00:11:09] CHELSEY DONN: Mm-hmm.
[00:11:09] TREY GERRALD: because it doesn't even seem like, like Joey isn't even saying that I've followed up three times and no response. They've obviously abandoned me. Like it feels very shady that you've just immediately gone to Yelp, like you didn't even employ them.
[00:11:22] CHELSEY DONN: It's one of those one star reviews that is not commenting on the service that was provided. Right? It's like you didn't get the service from handyman. So if I'm gonna have A' one star review 'I. On my profile, 'I would rather it be something that's so ridiculous like this, like you didn't get back to me within 24 hours because there's no Complaint here about the service provided.
It's not like, oh, they came and they put A' hole in my wall. Right. There's, there's really nothing negative in this review about while handyman. Other than the, maybe not responding right away, but again, just in having worked with so many handyman and knowing how involved these jobs are, like, do you really want your handyman on the job site for you texting other people?
'I mean maybe they could have A' dispatcher or something like that, but 'I don't know. 'I. Just think we have to be A'. L When was this written?
[00:12:14] TREY GERRALD: Four years ago, 'I mean the only sort of like unique information here is like perhaps wow is not the best at communication. But 'I don't even know if 'I would apply that because it really just seems like Joey is A' little off center.
[00:12:32] CHELSEY DONN: 'I. Think it's hard for Joey to be wowed by anyone,
[00:12:38] TREY GERRALD: Yeah.
[00:12:39] CHELSEY DONN: 'I overall. Just get this very fragile ego sad boy story.

[00:12:48] TREY GERRALD: You knew it. You felt A'. So here we go. So we have A' reply from the business owner. Their name is Joe Mar. Joe Mar says, what happened. We texted yesterday morning while 'I was on my way to A' job on the Upper West Side from Ridgewood on my bike. 'I sent A' text that didn't go through, which 'I honestly didn't realize till now.
After seeing this and checking my messages, 'I got home yesterday after 10:00 PM Anybody reading this, keep in mind, he is not reviewing any services rendered.
[00:13:25] CHELSEY DONN: There you
[00:13:26] TREY GERRALD: We didn't even say when we could book the job. And made no promises. All we said was we would figure out A' Day to go Assess the job in person, which we do for free on our time.
We have to prioritize booked jobs. Obviously,
[00:13:48] CHELSEY DONN: Okay, well 'I mean hit the nail in the head with that one. 'I mean.
[00:13:53] TREY GERRALD: right.
[00:13:54] CHELSEY DONN: Clearly you do have to prioritize paid work. 'I think that the response was really good. 'I think it did exactly what 'I wanted it to do, which was not like 'I. Be nasty about it, but just like address it and point out the fact that, yeah, this is not A' reflection of the work that we do.
This is A' reflection of A' person that wanted A' response immediately and didn't get one. Do 'I buy the bike thing? 'I. Think 'I do.
[00:14:20] TREY GERRALD: Well, my only main critic like 'I, think Joe Mar does an amazing job of sort of like being calm and sort of like grounding A' reality. That feels truthful to me. 'I. 'I for some reason because it doesn't feel ludicrous. The story 'I buy honestly because they also fess up and say, 'I honestly didn't even catch that.
The message didn't go through until 'I found this review. Like that feels like they're admitting possible fault of of A' portion of this and being very honest and saying like, we never booked and we never confirmed like it, it seems
like 'I have to 'I.
[00:14:59] CHELSEY DONN: see. 'I can see the logic I'm teetering with like, did we even need the bike? Excuse? Did that help matters? 'I mean? 'I guess because of what you just said. It is them fessing up too. 'I didn't realize it didn't go through like you know, it is saying 'I made A' mistake. 'I guess in A'.

[00:15:50] TREY GERRALD: He told me that his text to me didn't go through 'I, told him on text, screenshot the text that didn't go through and send it to me and I'll remove my Yelp review.

[00:16:02] TREY GERRALD: he didn't, he was not even apologetic. Narcissist the end.
[00:16:11] CHELSEY DONN: Oh, okay, so Joey's definitely unhinged. Okay, so the feelings 'I was getting about Joey being unhinged are now further solidified. If there's anyone that I've met who calls people narcissists the most, it's narcissists.
[00:16:29] TREY GERRALD: Narcissist, God, isn't that A'? Quote.
[00:16:32] CHELSEY DONN: Love to call other people narcissists. Nine times outta 10. If someone is referring to someone as A', narcissist, be A'.
Little bit careful. 'I don't know 'I. Just think there's like A' way of talking about it. But somebody that's gonna immediately just go for A', narcissist out A', freaking nowhere. Like what are you trying to do here?

[00:17:11] TREY GERRALD: Well, in the same breath, it's like the one claiming they have no time for. Petty stuff is literally spending so much time on Petty's except for Autocorrecting.

Can't even imagine. This does not sound like A' stable person.

[00:17:58] CHELSEY DONN: Absolutely not. Joey's reply actually like 'I was, 'I was at A' certain place in my mind. Calculation mental math with the crowning. And now I'm in A' lower place because of this reply. This reply had the opposite impact. Joey let us in A' little bit to his personality.

[00:18:38] CHELSEY DONN: Okay. This is not looking that good for Joe Mar, but I'm super curious to hear what they're gonna say. Oh man, this is A' rollercoaster ride. Trey
[00:18:47] TREY GERRALD: Joe Mar says, update. He just texted me that he's going to change the review to yesterday morning parentheses. Originally he said three days had gone by. They also manage 72 properties, he says, and the job he called us for is for A' tenant that called the city on them, as per his original message to me.
So, Anybody can see what 'I was dealing with. Then he tried to strong arm me if 'I do this or that. Parenthesis sent him A' pick of the unsent message. He would take the review down. 'I told him to leave it, but 'I posted the picture of my unsent message on my photos for anyone interested in seeing that my response didn't go through.
It happens. Please keep in mind that 'I am very involved on my business. 'I, do work with my guys plus 'I, do the office work. If you don't hear from me, please harass me. 'I, don't mind. I'm human and do forget stuff, which wasn't the case here, but still

[00:20:49] CHELSEY DONN: For their client, Joanne, they're like, Hey, Jomar, I'm Joey.
Joanne who called the city on us, is having A' problem with her plumbing. Can you come and fix it as soon as possible?
[00:21:00] TREY GERRALD: that actually adds A' little context to maybe why Joey is so emotional and so concerned about the timeline,
[00:21:09] CHELSEY DONN: Right, because there's the thread of the city. But even so slam dunk for Joe Mar and 'I do think that Joe Mar is leaving this winning. We had the first review, Joe Mar replied in like A', pretty generic way, just gonna defend myself. Then Joey came back punching harder, and then Joe Marr felt like, well, let me actually tell you

So what's interesting is we're getting the most information in this review that Joey, of course, never

Anyone would think is valid, so let's just like start there. Your only Complaint is that this person didn't get back to you right away. Not that they did shitty work.

I'm not afraid of that, and have nothing to hide. 'I even texted you that we could still gladly help you, that the property is but five blocks from me, but you didn't reply back in the future.
You just hit me up again, man. Plain and simple, brother. I'm human and do forget stuff, which 'I swear wasn't the case here. 'I was waiting for you to get back to me. For some reason you took A' personal and left A' bad review. That's fine man. But like 'I said, the picture is up and my message didn't go through.
'I caps never let people hanging. Whether 'I can take the job or not, it's all good. You are just A' hard man to please and you have the right to be. You have left 21 Yelp reviews to other businesses. 16, which are one or two stars, and in eight years you are the first person that leaves A' bad review.
Instead of sending A' simple text like, Hey, are we still on? And your whole review was about you feeling 'I just ignored you, but the picture of the message not delivered proves otherwise. And still, you left A' bad review, but that says more about you than me.
